Windows 7 General / Windows Live Essentials - Movie Maker problem
« Last post by nib on February 07, 2012, 07:51:58 PM »
Hi...
I'm relatively new to Win 7 Home Premium (64-bit) and have just discovered it doesn't include Windows Movie Maker which was on XP.
However, I noticed online Windows Movie Maker 2.6 is supposed to work with the above.
It downloaded fine but when I went into 'All Programs' and clicked on Windows Movie Maker, nothing happened.
I noticed also the icon next to it was a blank one and not a 'Windows' one.
Checking Add/Remove (I actually use Revo) the program was definitely installed.
Nevertheless, I uninstalled then reinstalled. No joy. I then uninstalled it completely.
I then noticed Windows Live Essentials contains the Movie Maker.
I selected only the 'Photo Gallery & Movie Maker' from the list and downloaded.
However, the same thing happened as with Windows Movie Maker 2.6. Also, same blank icon.
I must be missing something simple here.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks

Windows 7 General / Devices and Printers box empty
« Last post by WayUpNorth on January 24, 2012, 10:52:02 PM »
New problem with Windows 7 (64 bit Pro). After installing a new network printer, the "Devices and Printers" box opens empty upon boot up, and a green search bar goes through the location bar at the top, but the icons never appear no matter how long one waits. Trying to print from any program will simply freeze the program. HOWEVER, if one opens Internet Explorer 9 BEFORE opening anything else (including "Devices and Printers") then it will populate normally with all devices and printers installed, and all will function normally. The test page for all printers will print normally, listing all drivers and their location.

There are two other Windows 7 computers on the network, and neither exhibit this problem with the same new network printer software installed.

How should I troubleshoot this and correct it?

Take it easy... the trouble is caused by windows explorer that makes the preview of all your pictures inside the dvd. Your optical drive is ok.

Hi...
I'm running Win7 Home Premium (64-bit) with Intel i7 chip, 8Mb RAM, onboard graphics.
My Liteon DVD-writer is only a few months old and performs all its functions without fuss - except one.
When I load a DVD-RW or DVD-R containing only 'jpg' images, it takes an age to read them. It won't allow access till that reading is done, regardless of whether I've chosen 'List' or 'Small/Medium/Large Icons' as my view preference.
I appreciate there's 4.7Gb of stuff and eventually it does read, but I've never had a rewriter that appears so sluggish in this regard. Its specs say it reads at 16 speed.
If I insert a DVD of MP3 files, by contrast, it handles these in a flash and many of these MP3 files are much larger than 'jpg' files!
Re-writers in my previous less well-spec'd machines have never exhibited this 'problem' for me.
I'm fairly new to Win7 and I wonder if it's linked to Win7 in some way?
Anyone having the same thing happen with their Liteon or have some advice?
Many thanks

Windows 7 General / Please help me
« Last post by Justine on January 06, 2012, 07:37:01 PM »
I have windows 7 on my main computer.  I have windows 7 Ultimate on my home computer.  At home, I found Mahjong Titans and downloaded it without any problem.  I then thought it would be good to have on my main computer... it is the best, in my humble opinion....

I can find it, no bother,  but getting to anywhere I can download from is impossible.  It's the Windows 7 Mahjong Titans quite specifially (delicate and easy on the eyes witih good twists on scoring).

I have followed everywhere I am told to go, I have tried downloading things, but the front page stares at me from the screen and doesn't do anything.  I have tried to copy and paste... which gave me the front page... as a picture only...I nearly had a heart attack!

Please can somebody help with what appears to be a simple task before I lose all my hair in frustration about this?  It's not a huge question or one about serious matters, but it is important to this Old Age Pensioner.

General Windows 7 Help / Re: Recovery disk or how to back up Hard Drve.

What size disk can I use to do a recovery and back the hard drive? Do I use a RW disk or other and size od disk.
Roger

You could use a CD for the recovery disc.  It would be possible to RW's but it would require several depending on the amount of data involved.  Best bet an external USB HDD, size once again depends on amount of data.  At least 500GB or 1TB.

Windows 7 Media Center/Media Player / Problem Adding Artwork In WMP12
« Last post by nib on November 29, 2011, 08:22:40 PM »
Hi...
I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit) Home Premium.
I'm having a problem with album artwork showing in Library View and in the full window of Windows Media Player 12.
I have WMP Plus and WMPCD Text as plug-ins.

At Organize>Manage Libraries>Music I've added a folder containing MP3 files.
I simply want to add the appropriate album cover to each track. I have these covers in another folder in My Documents.
With the previous version WMP 11, this proved easy. However, with WMP12...

Here's the problem:

In Library View, I click on eg 'Track 1' name>Tag Editor Plus>Pictures tab etc>Add>appropriate cover from folder as above>Apply

The artwork now shows in both Library View & when I play the 'Track 1'. So far, so good.

However, when I do the same with 'Track 2' and click 'Apply' the artwork from 'Track 1' shows beside 'Track 2', with BOTH tracks now showing the SAME artwork!>:(

When I play 'Track 2' in 'Library View', 'Track 1's cover shows at the left and the correct cover shows top right! >:( >:(

When I play 'Track 2' in full window, Track 1's cover shows!

Clearly, Track 2's info is somehow not being carried over.

I've a lot of MP3 files I want to treat  with their separate covers and I can't proceed till I get this sorted out.

I've even tried a rebuild of WMP 12 to see if that helped, but no...same result.

Can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong?
