It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for the Skype app/integration for Windows Phone. Windows Phone head Joe Belfiore even spoke about the app back in MIX 2011 last year and we’re still waiting with no clarification on when the popular video chatting service might come to this platform. After all, Microsoft does own them, so why not?
Mobile.se was able to get a bit of information about the service and what we can expect in the near future on Windows Phone. It appears that we will see an app very soon which will have to hold us over until a deeper integration comes in the major update scheduled for later this year, “Apollo.”
Might we hear an announcement at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in late February? I don’t have any solid information on this, but that’s where my money would be.

This is a great move for Microsoft. Since the company
purchased Skype last year, it hasn’t done a lot to take advantage of the
exclusive partnership. This is a great chance for Microsoft to give the
Windows Phone a killer feature. Deep integration of Skype seems like
something Microsoft would want to implement, given its competing services
like FaceTime gaining steam. 2012 could be a huge year for Microsoft.

My LG phone doesn’t have a front camera. It’s something that’s missing in my Skype app, though.
