Microsoft seem to have this year pretty much sorted and wrapped up. They’ve got Windows 7 – with a service pack, Office 2010 and Microsoft Kinect along with the Xbox 360 Slim. They’ve even revamped their mobile department and have Windows Phone 7 coming along pretty soon too. But after that, what’s going to be coming from Microsoft?
What are Microsoft going to announce next year? They killed the courier unfortunately so we won’ be getting that, and things are looking hazy with the HP Slate, which means I dont see anything planned for next year anyway. Unless they go and make a stab at their own tablet?
Yes they can continue working on Windows 8, but that wont be released to us for another 2 or 3 years, and we may see another service pack for Windows 7 creep along at some stage but overall there won’t be much new on the OS front anyway. Windows Phone 7 will probably just be receiving a few updates to fix bugs and flaws while they try and build up their app store.
They’ve just released Office 2010 so there will be nothing new coming on that side of things as Microsoft don’t normally release new editions of Office every year.
On the gaming front, we have Kinect and the Xbox 360 slim coming out this year, but what’s happening next year? There will be no new game console so I’d imagine it will just be more game titles. We may see an update coming to the Zune HD side of things, it doesn’t really appear to have taken off to well so I’d expect a hardware refresh at least.
So really there isn’t a lot that Microsoft can do for next year with their current products, they’ve brought everything to market this year. I’m sure they’ve probably got something in hiding from us that may find it’s way to the web at some stage, but for now we’re in the dark.
