I would like to tell you is that the slate can use Windows 7's Aero theme. You can see that in the youtube video. According to Microsoft, the HP slate PC is powerful as a desktop computer. What you are looking at that HP slate PC is a prototype.

Apple? Quality? R-I-G-H-T... And Acer's are also top of the line too. Mac's don't use better quality components, they use the EXACT same things as other manufacturers use in their computers. AND they over price it! You could take those "High-quality" computers, and take all the Mac logos off it, re-case it in something different and put it on the shelves (after putting W7 on it), and sell it at the same price of an average HP with the same quality.

Apple's don't necessarily have better quality, they just have such a low market share that you don't normally hear an Apple product breaking down. But I know someone who owned a Mac Laptop and had a house fire, and guess what? The source was narrowed down to the Mac. Whew, that's some great quality.

And yes I am tight with my money, and the reason is that I'm saving for the best quality stuff that I want. I have NEVER owned anything of low quality. That is why I'm tight. Just because your tight doesn't mean you buy the cheapest thing to get you along.

And I'm not trying to bash Apple that much, its just that PC's are a much better choice for what I want. And I have never bought a pre-built system, just for the thrill of putting your own choice of high quality materials that you researched and purchased. Let's see you do that with a Mac.

Tight wad - the essential trait of your typical Apple basher. Sorry you can't afford true quality! :)

I see in the picture above that the slate is using the Windows Basic colour scheme...so it probably doesn't even have the graphics capabilities to run Aero-anything...that could be a bummer. But I have to say, I'd rather buy it that an iTampon...

Umm, no that IS a point. It may be opinion too, but none the less it is still a 'point'.

Either way, no matter how you want to argue the case, to claim 'best-ever' browsing experience with no flash support is ridiculous at this point in time. ~75% of video content on the web is delivered via flash. You can argue for your Youtube player app and such, but that is not in-browser and is a pretty band-aid. You can argue for HTML5 moving forward, which is a nice thought at this point, but not currently where we or the web is at. You can argue your 'Flash is a tricky thing' point, but the fact remains that from a user stand point that part of the web is dead to you on the iPad, thus creating a not so seamless browsing experience.

Unfortunately though this is all moot when it comes to sales and marketing. Apple and the iPad will win numbers wise simply based on buzz and release date. HP and others will be playing a serious game of catch up and likely never will.

Flash arguments aside, how about multitasking? Will your over sized iPhone be able to stream music and surf the web at the same time? The answer: Currently, no. And that's enough to sell me on the HP or other W7 devices.

If it didnt have flash I woudln't buy it. I want one of these for my Mother and all she likes to do is play flash games, browse the web, chat, and check her email. This device can do all that. I'm sold as far as I'm concerned. The Ipad is basically fail. When I got my first itouch I knew they would make a large one and what do you know? Fail on the name, fail on predictability, fail on no flash, fail on no expandable storage, fail fail fail. The only thing this has going for it is the app store. If you have an iphone or an itouch you don't need this. And if you have an iphone you dont need either an Itouch or "IPAD". This HP device looks really nice. An actual OS on it with a great hardware design? HP + Windows FTW!

Umm, this is not a point ’Personally, I don’t believe that Steve Jobs can call the iPads web browsing experience the “best-ever”’, it's an opinion. The question was ‘What about you guys? Is the lack of flash support a deal breaker?’. Which is what I wrote about, gave examples and then some.

The point Steve Jobs was trying to make about "the best browsing experience on a device" was how you interact with it, how you navigate through the web.

Flash is a tricky thing, Apple have their reasons to not incorporate it like battery life issues, interaction issues as most sites have a hovering effect for menus and such, the fact that Flash for OS X consumes about twice as much CPU as the Windows counterpart since the iPhone OS is based on OS X itself.

I agree that Flash is important to the web, but until Adobe pull their weight Apple will never consider supporting Flash. I am however, keeping my hopes up for Flash 10.1.

Well so far from the looks of things, I feel I like this better than the iTampon. And going along with just its size, its basically a huge iPod Touch/iPhone (with less memory). I use my iPod touch all the time, and just the lack of a speedy browser is quite annoying, and to top it off, it doesn't load flash. And in doing this you are sometimes unavailable to even visit a webpage cause the entire page is flash based.

Who knows, I may end up buying one of these when they release. But probably won't cause I'm a tight wad with my money.

Easy fanboy. I think the point (and very good one) was, "Personally, I don’t believe that Steve Jobs can call the iPads web browsing experience the “best-ever” when it lacks the one component that is used so widely, flash."

Like it or not, flash is still widely used and to claim 'best ever' for a browsing experience that lacks flash support is boldly ignorant at best.

I love how iDudes get all hot and bothered when other companies try to compete with Apple. That's not a very good recipe for innovation my friend.

Personally, I don't think Flash is that big of a deal. I use an ad blocker in Safari to get rid of all those annoying Flash banners and ads because I don't like looking at them, I can't imagine anyone who does. As for YouTube, well there's an App for that. As for games (among other things) well Apple have taken care of that with the App Store.
iPhone is a success without Flash and so will the iPad.

As for the Slate itself, I don't know if HP were scared or just wanted to steal some of Apples thunder (which it didn't), but slapping Windows 7 along with their own program just isn't the same as the intergration Apple and App Store developers bring to the iPad.
