Windows 7 Slate Includes Flash

View Comments March 9, 2010 | Jason

With this weekends news of the iPad’s impending arrival, HP took it upon themselves to give us a little peek and some more information about the HP Slate running Windows 7. While we already knew of the device, one key element of the Slate over the iPad will be the availability of flash for web browsing. Phil McKinney, vice president and Chief Technology Officer for HP’s Personal Systems group commented, “With this slate product, you’re getting a full web browsing experience in the palm of your hand…No watered-down internet, no sacrifices.”

Personally, I don’t believe that Steve Jobs can call the iPads web browsing experience the “best-ever” when it lacks the one component that is used so widely, flash.

We still do not have the price structure and schedule of availability for the HP slate. I would guess we should see it by Q3 or early Q4 at the latest, but I’m hoping for a spring or summer release. It also appears that HP has layered the Windows 7 OS with it’s own proprietary software for browsing and launching programs, which can be seen here in this video.

What about you guys? Is the lack  of flash support a deal breaker? Will the Slate’s extra features be able to rival the brand name and app ecosystem that Apple has created? I believe that if HP can get the pricing right and deliver hardware that won’t skip or lag, we might see a very capable device suited to take on the iPad.

Apple? Quality? R-I-G-H-T… And Acer's are also top of the line too. Mac's don't use better quality components, they use the EXACT same things as other manufacturers use in their computers. AND they over price it! You could take those “High-quality” computers, and take all the Mac logos off it, re-case it in something different and put it on the shelves (after putting W7 on it), and sell it at the same price of an average HP with the same quality.

Apple's don't necessarily have better quality, they just have such a low market share that you don't normally hear an Apple product breaking down. But I know someone who owned a Mac Laptop and had a house fire, and guess what? The source was narrowed down to the Mac. Whew, that's some great quality.

And yes I am tight with my money, and the reason is that I'm saving for the best quality stuff that I want. I have NEVER owned anything of low quality. That is why I'm tight. Just because your tight doesn't mean you buy the cheapest thing to get you along.

And I'm not trying to bash Apple that much, its just that PC's are a much better choice for what I want. And I have never bought a pre-built system, just for the thrill of putting your own choice of high quality materials that you researched and purchased. Let's see you do that with a Mac.

I would like to tell you is that the slate can use Windows 7's Aero theme. You can see that in the youtube video. According to Microsoft, the HP slate PC is powerful as a desktop computer. What you are looking at that HP slate PC is a prototype.
