Yes. It's where the quote “Big Brother is watching” comes from. Basically, if cloud computing becomes the norm and all of our data is on a server instead of a hard drive that we own, the government, or the owners of the servers themselves, will be able to access everything. Do you want the government to have access to every picture you have, every website you've typed in, every program you use, all of your documents, just like THAT? Now, they have to actually seize your hard drive, but if it is in “the cloud,” they just have to get a court order and ALL of your information is theirs. That's also not assuming that “the cloud” won't pass through some NSA server before the information goes to and from you, which I wouldn't rule out. Also, how exactly will it work with overseas countries? Do we really expect other countries to store their stuff on a “cloud” in America? Or will Microsoft and Google set up servers overseas? I really don't see this turning out well for those wanting to keep their last semblance of privacy.

Are you talking about IPV 6?
Internet 2 is just a word for a ghost. Just an upgarde to better routers and standards.
Korea has the fastest networks available worldwide that everybody enjoys. Why? Because the ISP over their does not sell teirs that's why. Everything here is market driven and as long as their are consumers for PC's, Wondows, and games them the PC will stick around.

As far as Assasins Creed, I thought I seen it online, cracked, and ready for download.
I didn't like the first one and I am into 1st person shooters so I can't tell you if it was BS or not.
Hell, I just started Fallout 3 again for the 6th time. I can't get enough.
Can't wait for Fallout Vegas and I'm pissed that Postal 3 went to 3rd person. Just like Red Faction it will fail.
I loved Red Faction 1, the sequal wasn't that bad either.
But RF Gurilla....sucked big ape testicles.

pirates are killing pc game? "it is true!!" PC is the king of all gaming devices....

Drm is on all games that comes out!!! assassins creed 2 was the first to need internet play 100% of the time... i know it will be cracked.. "steam is cracked"

pc started home pc war!! they won't go anywhere!!! they many change how they get to you!!! over the internet is the best guess!!! not with in 10 years may be 20 years!!

bandwidth and ip address is a problem now!!! with internet 2 each person can have up to a 1000 ip address.

Another point of view.
Some in the gaming industry who say they "SPEAK FOR EVERYONE" keep stating that the pirates are the one's that are causing PC games to diminish.

We all know that is BS especially when you can play backup games on the XBox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo WII, the DS, The Gameboy (all versions), The Atari 2600, ALL versions of Atari, All versions of Colecovision, All versions of Intellivision, All versions of Nintendo everything, All versions of Amiga, the TI 99...Should the list even go on even most Arcade games....So WTF are they trying to say?

Just sell the game in as many formats possible, pirates consists of very few of the populous that have the know how.

We are ALL so sorry on the millions of copies of GTA Vice City, San Andreas and IV.
We are so sorry that you spend a 1,00,000 on a video game and it either makes a ton of cash or is a worthless piece of crap.

I bought every version of half life and add ons until Half Life 2 came out and they wanted information and an internet connection to activate what I paid for.
Guess what, shortly there after it was cracked and they already alienated their audiance with BS.

Sorry, no thanks. The argument has no merrit.
PC's will ALWAYS be around and Consoles will always be hacked.

Dude, stay off the drugs until you can handle them.
PC's aren't going anywhere.
I would rather have a PC than an XBox 360 or portable device any day.
At a minimum they will be able to dock with a portable device and what do you think the servers are going to run off of? Playstations?

Do you think the Space Shuttle or equivelant will run off of a modified Nintendo DS?

People not able to play the game because the servers were attacked by people not happy with the DRM. That, and the DRM was cracked in 24 hours. Users who buy a product should never not be able to use the product because of something like this. Making the internet mandatory for programs just causes problems, especially when servers could be attacked so easily. This isn't a better option for the end user. Has nobody else read 1984? Why would any person with a brain think having LESS control over your data is a good idea?

you know there is alot of piracy one the net. company worried about loosing money! like Ubisoft Assassin's Creed II pc game come with drm that require internet 100% of the time to play any part of the game.. Google it.. also Google or go to onlive.com

lol yeah, that's another thing about “the cloud.” “The cloud” and “the internet” are just other words for “servers owned by a huge company.” It's not like our private and personal data is going to be stored in a sky. It's going to be stored on a server owned by a greedy company. In what way is that better than being stored on my own hard drive where only I have access to it, at any time, for free, without needing an internet connection, and can do whatever I want with my data and if I delete it, I *know* it's deleted rather than just moved to another part of their server.

Great! How about connecting multitude of home devices without drivers and/or appropriate software? Or your predicting quick death to whole printers/MFP industry? Am I going to store my private data somewhere “in the cloud” and pay money for that while I can store it on my hard drives for free (except for HD price) and can easily add more HDDs when I need to.

Am I the only one that likes using a phone for phone calls, and a computer for my computing needs? The idea of cloud computing petrifies me and I see no upside for a home user who knows how to use a computer properly. For businesses, maybe it could help. As for the idea of phones and tablets replacing our computers, hell no. Who is going to do word processing, photo and video editing, and all other kinds of stuff on one of those devices? Plus, I like having a full keyboard and a beautiful 23 inch monitor to do my work on. These devices are nice to use when you are away from your keyboard, but lets face it, would anyone really be comfortable using those devices for most things and never touching a computer again? A user like me isn't worried about re-installing software or viruses, I know how to work a computer. For those that don't know how to use one properly, it's really easy to learn if you are motivated.

I would never trust my possessions on such a small device that could be lost, stolen, or DRM'd to hell. And cloud computing? lol, does anyone really trust people like Microsoft or Google with all of their images, videos, documents, etc? Am I the only one who knows about '1984?' How on earth could people think giving up their independence and relying on companies to give you access to your own data? I like having hard copies of my programs and data, not stored on some greedy company's servers, not needing the internet to access all of my data and programs, and not needing to pay a subscription to do all of this.

The "future" of computing looks very bleak.

I honestly think that Windows and Macs will still stay around in 2012-2020. They will just have more features. Google OS might be a new one as well. But Windows is still used for gaming more than this article states. I've used Vista for over a year and am looking forward to w7 (not because Vista sucks, but because 7 has more features). I might get a Mac. Unless Apple runs out of ideas of things to add.

PC has lost the battle for gaming? Name a console with DX11. PC > Consoles.

And yeah, to the normal person, PCs arent a major part of their life, they will live on their smartphones or whatever. But I think the people who are at least following the threads here will keep a desktop for the foreseeable future. They cannot be replaced.
