It’s only been a month since Microsoft announced that Windows 7 had outsold Vista during the same time period in its life with 60 million copies sold. Now though not long after they’re trumpeting again hitting the 90 million mark.
At a presentation at the Morgan Stanley Technology Media and Telecom Conference, Microsoft Chief Financial Officer, Peter Klein, announced the new figure.
One of the surprising things about Windows 7 is the number of retail copies of the OS that are being sold is significantly higher than previous versions of Windows, and much higher than was expected. This has helped Microsoft get to these fantastic figures. It has also happened despite lacklustre sales of new PCs in the last few months, especially during the normally bumper Christmas period.
In addition, Klein announced that there will indeed be an Office 2010 Upgrade programme, similar to the one with Windows 7, that will allow people who buy Office 2007 after March 5th to upgrade to Office 2010, either for free or for a small shipping fee.
Below is a slide from the presentation with details on these points.
