Lack of gripping doesn’t make software a success…but since Vista did create a lot of gripping from more than one channel, No Gripe is Good news for Windows 7 at least. So it should come as no surprise as was reported here yesterday “Windows 7 Fastest Selling Operating System In History Says Microsoft” that Windows7 has been a success story.
Now Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, proclaimed at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2010, that Windows7 has close to 1 million applications supporting the Windows7 OS.
No matter how you look at that, in just over two months, developers have embraced the OS. That is not all. The number of hardware devices supporting Windows7 is hovering around 250,000.
Here are some images from the show.
According to Ballmer, “The Windows platform represents the broadest ecosystem of developers in the world from casual games to the most powerful software running the world’s biggest organizations. There are over four million Windows applications in all, and Windows 7 allows software to become even better. Developers are creating rich applications that take advantage of the new technologies in 7. Our partners have delivered over 800,000 new unique Windows 7 applications exploiting these new technologies with over 240,000 new devices, peripherals, and machines just since we delivered the beta release.”
IPTV
XBox Live
Other technologies that will be available are the IPTV and Media Room. This will bring many of the features of cable, direct – satellite TV, or on demand tv to the home using the TCP/IP architecture.

That means that it’s success has largely been acclaimed by third party developers that feel that the OS is stable, reliable, and powerful enough to run their applications or devices. That is certainly good news for the end user that has to be reassured by the development of outside companies with a view for the future. While Apple and other hardware developers seem to be getting a lot of public attention lately, the fact that quietly Windows7 is making a dominant impression means that the old XP / Vista days are behind for Microsoft.
