Long exposure photography is special; it has dazzling overtones because the photographs are not normal. Long exposure photography is a technique that requires a slow shutter speed to capture light and movement. The photos allow one to see things from a different perspective. As an observer it could be the ability to experience time in a different fashion. Long exposure photography is popular but it is a difficult form of photography. One has to be a master of photographic equipment, but more importantly one must also be an artist. It requires a perfect subject, it also requires mastery of light and dark, and the ability to see beyond the face of an image, and to see what it can become.

When an image is taken including stationary and moving subjects using a slow shutter speed, interesting effects, such as light trails occur. Long exposures are easiest to accomplish in low-light conditions, as seen from the many dark image photographs. They can be done in brighter light using neutral density filters or specially designed cameras.
