when i bought my laptop it was already installed w/ a genuine windows 7, but when I’ve updated it there was an error C0000034, and i had it reformatted in the mall, but i determined that the one that they used s not genuine. Is there a possibility to retrieve the product key that was previously installed in my PC?

but………. that has to be done AFTER Installation.

How to inspect the DVD media or Product Key before that?

And what if you went to a retail store in the US and purchased a computer with Win7 already installed with the COA sticker on the computer case and weren't provided a Setup disk and some hardware or software you've installed has caused the WGA failure? Does that mean you are SOL and that MS gets more money to replace what should be a valid installation? I am not the only one experiencing this, WGA in Win7 is a failure waiting to occur!

Alternatively…if you got it from Bittorrent site…not genuine. If you got it from a bloke with a wheelbarrow standing on a street corner for 10 quid…not genuine. If you bought it from a shop or persuaded a student friend to download it for you for 30 quid …genuine.

The tests above are the ones that are used to see a copy is genuine. the only other test is one that many people will know if their copy will pass – 'did I get this copy from a shop or from a torrent?'. I don't really see the point of adding that test to the article!

Not very well researched. Most of the pirate copies will still show as both Genuine and Activated. Of course, once MS decide to move via Windows Update that will change, and these copies will begin to be flagged as counterfeit.
