I was wondering what a tilde symbol meant. I guess that's why the words 'confirmed' and 'proof' are in quotes. I guess most readers of this website realized this, so they didn't feel the need to unnecessarily correct the author.

The use of the tilde symbol typically establishes that the date is just an approximation. It really doesn't confirm anything - just means that Microsoft's oft-stated three year development cycle is still what they use to insert "forward thinking" dates when they don't have a real one. You get 2012 as an approximate date by adding the obligatory three years to the current release but that doesn't mean that is a fixed milestone until the tilde goes away. Keep in mind the Vista date shifted by years before it was released and the official target for Windows 7 (based upon the three year cycle) was the first quarter of 2010.

Stephen
