well from what the programmers make and what Bill Gates takes it appears to me that vista and Windows ME where probably coded and put to gather by Bill Gates him self he has 500 billion dollars to anyone you would think he would invest in an operating system that out performs any, I do understand that bulding an OS for hareware devices is very complex given that, there are 1000's of devices you can put into PC.
People will bitch about prices when they feel stolen from, I remember listening a radio show back in the day and the radio host claiming windows ME was the best OS for gaming and such, I went out purchased ME and right after the install I felt ripped off. And then we were fed Windows Vista and commcials ripped through the air waves and in magazines claiming Vista was MS best ever OS then again I paid out of pocket so I feel and many others believe the price most come down until trust is once again back to the people. And MS makes a new OS every 2 years and also seems like right after they release one their building a new one.

I totally agree with you there. To me, Windows 2000 Pro was one of the most significant releases from MS in years. I wrote a letter to the MS team congratulating them on Win7 as being another milestone thinking they would never read it. Instead I got a great response back.

Now let's look at time, how much do you get paid an hour? Multiply that times nine years, now multiply that number to the amount of programmers that were paid to develop Win7. Then, tell me what gives anyone the right to bitch about paying a rather high price for it? Especiually since it has features that go far and beyond those offered by Apple's Snow Leopard? Huh?

And since Apple re-invents itself every 14 months, guess what, those running Snow Leopard will be shelling out another $100+ bucks for the next cat-like rendition of it's operating system. And you people bitch cuz you only have to do it every 9 years? Would someone like to buy a clue here?

Back in the day before all the server versions, I used Windows 2000 Pro and IIS as a true web hosting server which also shared a laser-jet printer with netrwork users in the building. But then along comes XP and all that cool sharing and management became history.

During the past nine years I was frustrated and moved to Apple for awhile.. but incase you didn't know, the day they released "Snow Leopard" their built in mail system could no longer work with Google's GMAIL right out of the box. But, Mr. Jobs did manage to release before MS's Win7 date that was so his primary goal as many of you know.

One thing that really annoys me, is that I have an Acer netbook that came with Win XP and I'd love to upgrade it to the Win7 Entry version cheap.. Sadly, there's no easy way.. and I wasn't all that keen on spending $115 for Home Premium to install it on my $245 netbook.. Seems a bit foolish to me. With the large wave of Netbook users, I would thing that MS would have though this out better. But now the hackers come into the picture and this introduces the purpose for Activation Hacks. Do you want to spend xxxx for software on a computer that's base price cost 50% more just to upgrade it? In some cases, wouldn't it make more sense to throw the thing XP in the trash and go out and buy one with Win7 already on it?

New machine, new software, fresh and clean, and no upgrade aggravation? Or do you think it would be better to do the hack on the existing one? Hummmm.. decisions decisions... You choose..

sorry for the bad gammer so here ill correct myself entitled means - to give
and to correct another error i said and I quote "to be completely honest windows 2000 was Microsoft's best ever OS. ran flawlessly on any system." - Windows 2000 ran flawless on my system and from other sources was a very stable Operating System for those systems that met the system requirements. Does that sound better for you people that cant see a grammer error and use what little brain power you have to correct it through your 2nd greade education?
I read a few more posts and I agree that MS is over pricing there product and that piracy would be lower if Bill Gates priced his product at error kinda like what people get when they purchase his operating systems.

My biggest protest is that it costs different amounts of money depending on what country you live in. Now that sucks. Im an aussie and it costs morethan the US version. Its like Australia is richer than America, which is total bollocks.

I've seen enough problems caused by WGA and Activation for people with genuine installs that I'm pretty firmly opposed to them at this point. On the flipside there are activation and WGA cracks available that let you use an illegal copy of Windows without any restrictions, including updates and so on.

The losers are the honest folk who are paying high prices for software because Microsoft (and most everyone else) are spending so much in a futile attempt to stop piracy. Unfortunately we are well past the point of no return on this. Microsoft's not going to stop working on protecting their sales any more than pirates are going to stop finding ways around it.

They release a product with promises of survivability (an OS that lasts more then 5 years is survivability), then said OS is fail out of the box in MOST cases (both ME and Vista fall into this category). Instead of willing to take a refund, or help you recover your system back to XP, 2000, or 98SE (Using MS's support, not some 3rd party) they just brush you off and release a New os to 'fix' the issues.

What about the data lost in this entire process, what about the down time of other things that you could/should be doing while you are fixing THEIR mistakes.

that is what MS has stolen. Time and Money.

The mentioned cracks are not the only ones available for Windows7. There is also a boot loader that disables the WPA checks during windows boot-time as well.

As for the windows update, Several communities (even blackhat) have made it apparent that its the software VENDORS responsibility to lock down and protect their software, even in a pirated state. So, windows updates HAS to work for all versions of said product, legit or not.

On a side note, I still feel Windows7 is to expensive for the professional version. In today's market we should not be seeing $200 OS's anymore. I personally feel that Home should be 49.99, Professional should be 79.99 and Ultimate should be 129.99. MS has been in the business a long time, they have made millions from their different OS releases (the good and bad) I think its time they gave BACK to the community that makes it possible for MS to survive, and NO a time locked 7100 Beta that lasts until June 2010 is NOT good enough.

Wait, what about 7Loader by Orbit30, ULoader by Orbit30, and Windows 7 Loader by Daz? Is this some kind of crack avertising or what lmao!

Really, 7Loader has been created about 2 months before Windows 7 has hit the stores, when the pirates already had it. :D

So if you pay for something and the quality of the product is not up to par you don't feel cheated (like somebody stole from you)?

I'll bet you if you would buy a car and after 6 months something goes wrong or doesn't work anymore, you would be the first to go and nag to the seller.

These days all software companies (including Microsoft) bring software to the market that is not bugfree. Instead they rely on the consumer that paid for it nonetheless to help report the problems and help them fix it. In the mean time you are stuck with it. All testers of the beta deserve a free copy in my opionion (like they did with Vista). thanks to you they can get the bugs out.

Microsoft rather brings out a system prematurely and make money than do a more decent cleanup in house. If they played like that they couldn't come up with an operating system every 3 years of course.

I am not proclaiming piracy is good. My OS is legal and I use freeware when I can. I just want to say that there is more to the story. A good product deserves to be paid for.

Maybe Microsoft (and the other software companies) could lower the price a bit. Don't they make enough money? Make Windows 7 30 to 40 dollars (RTM price anyway) and people will not be so eager to get an illegal copy which can give them trouble. It would bring profit to Microsoft in the end in my opinion.

Interesting logic. So what exactly has Microsoft stolen from you? In fact - absolutely nothing. If you paid for a product and didn't like it, I think that means you simply didn't like it. Last I checked, that happens with commercial products every day. BTW, if the OS came preinstalled with a system purchase you barely even paid for it anyway. The only theft is the theft associated with people illegally activating a commercial prioduct that they did not purchase. In a more fair world, the legal system and courts would be in a position to deal with this theft in the same way as it handles any other type of property theft. Unfortunately, the legal system is a decade behind the curve when it comes to software. BTW, Windows 2000 was not even released to the masses so stating that it ran flawlessly on "all systems" is pretty silly (to put it mildly)....

Stephen

Perhaps you might at least want to check the facts before posting such stuff. Microsoft acknowledged in the spring that pirated copies will still be able to access Windows update.

Stephen

Microsoft should consider removing the WGA as that is the only way they can retain some of their market share. WGA has made it impossible for pirated users to update windows spreading malicious code as their system is left vulnerable. Viruses, Malwares, Malacious Codes & all the mess that microsoft has made & simply is not capable of correcting has given it a real bad reputation with the intellect. I myself have a Legal copy of Win 7 on my new dell laptop but still i dont feel safe surfing the web on it. I prefer linux to surf the web. So Microsoft users have started migrating to other OS. Remove WGA to make system slightly less vulnerable (In windows they never will be FULLY) & protect ur share + please keep ur eyes open & make a better Secure OS. I have paid for Win 7 but i fell less secure in it. I got Ubuntu for free but i feel more secure in it. WHY?..Microsoft has to give answers...People are no longer dumb. They are now well exposed because of the net to know what is better & what is not...& please I am no Linux fanboy... I have worked on windows exclusively since 1999 & i am a paid customer of Microsoft...This is to Microsoft that I AM NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR PAID PRODUCT.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here:
I think that it does not matter how much a company has "ripped" us off (remember, business is business), piracy is wrong, however you look at it. But, again, that's just me. Microsoft has ripped people off here and there, but pirating makes the situation WORSE, not better.

i totally agree with the above, first bill gates steals the operating system from his room mate in collage secondly has ripped everyone off, i almost wanna believe that this is done on purpose so window lovers get excited about a new windows OS coming out. to be completely honest windows 2000 was Microsoft's best ever OS. ran flawlessly on any system.
If someone has paid for a copy of the following windows 98se,windows ME, windows vista then they should be intitled to a FREE copy of the newest of windows, these are the people who made bill gate the theif rich. I dont understand it, its OK if companys steal from us and when we steal from them we are criminals.
