Windows 7 does not have virtual desktop support. But with a third party program, one can add additional desktops with which to work from.

What it does: Dexpot 1.4 allows you to create up to 20 virtual desktops. It creates and manages virtual desktops. The free program enables you to work with many simultaneously opened windows on a variety of MS operating systems beginning with Windows 95/98/ME and NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista (incl. x64) and Windows7.
Download the program, and install it. Then Start-> Dexpot

Now configure desktops -> Desktop Manager

Go to the Background Tab – Here you can setup a different desktop, which will allow you to differentiate between desktops, keeping them separate.

Now you want to assign a image to the desktop.

If you repeat this operation, you will be able to set up the different desktops.
Note that on the lower right hand side, you will see that four desktops have been defined.
