A very important thing to know about this is that when you stream to XBox360 you have to reencode any DTS audio stream to ac3. The xbox doesn't support DTS.

maybe. I'm personally still going the ffdshow route as I like the control it gives me, but believe you me it took me many nights to get it right. the latest shark007 codecs do the job just as well though - they are very impressive, but the divx project is the real future I believe.

I should probably be more specific. I am running the RTM version of Windows 7, which is the final version. The DivX MKV solution seems to have been tested on the RC version of Windows 7. I'm guessing that's what the problem is. Hopefully, they release a new version soon to go with the final version of Windows 7.

I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, and I got really choppy playback on my 1080p MKV with the DivX MKV solution. I tried Shark007's codec and it worked flawlessly. Any idea why?

Just to clarify, the above solution doesn't include ANY codecs. It enables you to use the Windows 7 native codecs, thereby giving MKV 1st class support under media foundation (Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, streaming to Xbox 360). Therefor, the install footprint is super small and you're not muddying up your system with a bunch of extra codecs. Perfect solution for those that want to keep their system clean and achieve great performance thanks to DXVA (graphics accelerated H.264 decoding). Good work DivX!!!

I use Shark007 codec pack for Win 7. Automated ffdshow installer, you just click one button. A slim codec pack with most useful stuff.
http://shark007.net/win7codecs.html
