No, Microsoft put an exclamation mark on the end of “meetup!”, not me. Following on from the House parties, one of which our own editors is hosting, Microsoft are now encouraging us all to have meetups!.
So what’s involved in this? It’s half publicity stunt and half peer support. Microsoft say the purpose of the meetups! is to…
Get a group of your friends or coworkers together and show them how everyday tasks are easier with Windows 7
And for this they’ve laid on a series of videos you can show, demonstrating the features of Windows 7.
The four meetup! (sorry but I can’t help taking the mickey out of that name) themes are…
- Media Mania – how to use new and enhanced functionality in Windows Media Centre, and an introduction to Windows Touch
- Photo Palooza – using Windows Live Photo Gallery (which isn’t part of Windows 7 but we’ll forgive them as the Live Essentials Suite is pretty, well, essential) and how to do things such as create panoramas
- Family Friendly Fun – All about Homegroups, UI enhancements, desktop customisation, the accessibility tools and Windows Live Movie Maker
- Setting up with Ease – Again covering personalisation, and UI enhancements but also covering topics such as parental controls, using help and Internet Explorer
Essentially, if you’ve already been using Windows 7 for a while this is a good opportunity to evangelise it to your friends and to meet for a few drinks. Like myself, I’m sure you’ve all had people curious what new features and functionality it brings to the table.
