No.
Mac OS is for Macs.
There are hacked versions that may run in notebooks or desktops, depending on your hardware. But i don't know how legal is that, even if you own a Mac...
As for netbooks, the graphics cards are almost always Intel or S3, so as Macs only use NVidia and ATI (i think), there won't be support for your (if you own one) netbook's graphics card.

I'll give you that it's true that you serve less people, you can't annoy as much... But Linux comes in a lot of flavours, so we wouldn't know...
As for Mac OS, the most you CAN customize it is the wallpaper, but that's about what i customize my windows or my Linux Mint... I understand that others don't feel the same way.

I don't want windows without a firewall or an anti-virus. I do want a firewall, but why do i MUST use windows firewall? OK, i can disable it, but why MUST it take my disk space? If i paid for it why can't i COMPLETELY remove it? I think it's only fair...
If you don't remember, MS was fined by EU cause vista didn't allowed any other anti-virus to run in it. Only the One from M$...
So when you say, that M$ keeps supporting 32Bit cause of the 1 gazillion customers, i say that's crap! They keep supporting it cause of the $$$$ they'll profit from it, and that's it!

I didn't understand a word about your first lines of your answer to me, so i'm just going to ignore it and answer to the part i understood. (so you don't think i'm avoiding answering)

Does MS forces me to use Media Player? No sir! You're absolutely right!
Does MS forces me to use System Restore? Same answer.
Internet Explorer
Windows Defender
Firewall
etc
All same answers.
I'll give all the reason in that! No argue whatsoever.

Now, please, bear with me in my line of thought:
- You buy a car.
- The car comes with a free 200 pound rock, which you don't need nor want.
- Brand forces you to carry the rock everywhere and doesn't allow you to remove it.
How would you fell? I don't need the rock, then you don't use it. But why, oh why, do you, MUST carry the fricking stone around???

The same goes to the windows components. Although i'm not forced to use them, they still take up my precious RAM and disk space. All i'm asking is: let me choose, if i even want to install those components or not. I think it's only fair. I mean, i'm paying, why can't i choose? Why does MS bosses me around?

As for BSOD's i did encountered them, but i guess i will have to take a photo next time, so that no one doubts me. I never had not even one in: Ubuntu, SuSE, Fedora or Mint.
Also i experience several freezes in my system, and the only to get the computer running again is press the power button until it shuts down and restart...

As for saying that Mac OS is MUCH better than W7, no, we certainly can't say that. As the new superbar is basically the icon dock in a bar... And W7 really is faster than previous OSes.
But i think we do can say that Mac OS IS better (not MUCH, but still better).
But if you think that having freedom over something you paid for, fine...

I didn’t understand a word about your first lines of your answer to me, so i’m just going to ignore it and answer to the part i understood. (so you don’t think i’m avoiding answering)

Does MS forces me to use Media Player? No sir! You’re absolutely right!
Does MS forces me to use System Restore? Same answer.
Internet Explorer
Windows Defender
Firewall
etc
All same answers.
I’ll give all the reason in that! No argue whatsoever.

Now, please, bear with me in my line of thought:

There's been some great responses, and I'm glad that they've managed to avoid a flame war. Some things I do disagree with though:

Smilingman:
Vista was definitely a major improvement on XP- I used Vista for about a 10 month period on my laptop when my old one died, and it had no performance issues whatsoever. I used Adobe Creative Suite 4 every day and never suffered from sluggish performance even with many applications open at once. I don't do much first-person shooting anymore, so I can't judge how performance works for that, but my consensus is that as long as your hardware supports, Vista should be a much more enjoyable experience than XP was. It also was very reliable and I can only recall a couple of times at most in the 10 month span where I was actually forced to restart because of freezing or some other issue. Usually, restarting the explorer does the trick if there happens to be a problem. So I would say, given appropriate hardware, MSoft DID make a better OS than XP with Vista. I will agree that W7 blows them both out of the water though, so that discussion really doesn't matter much anymore.

nomadewolf:
Your post pretty much made no sense. If you put smaller and faster on the W7 side, then they should be removed from the OS X side. And where is multi-core on the W7 list? That leaves OS X with pretty much nothing. 64-bit should go on the W7 side, and smarter is debatable as well. You might also want to throw software compatibility under W7 too. As far as the stuff you don't need to use, that's a joke indeed as Redunion said. Firewall and antivirus are pretty desirable software these days, but if for some odd reason you don't want them, then DISABLE them. There's no "enduring" involved with that. Same with every other thing you listed there. No one is making you use them. There is no hassle involved in using alternative web browsers or media players. No one will force you to use system restore, and I've never even encountered BSOD's or Ready Boost since installing W7, so how these are bothering you so much I find pretty amazing. I would say MSoft got it right by producing an OS, it's best OS yet, that incorporates a solid appearance, improved organization, security, hardware performance, and user-friendly features that have matched or exceeded it's Mac counterpart, Leopard, in many ways. I don't think you can make a very strong argument anymore about OS X being much better than Windows or the other way around. To me, this eliminates any reason to pay the price premium on an Apple. Now people have personal preferences, so there is nothing wrong with wanting an Apple, but to say that Microsoft didn't get it right this time is hard to support, as your faulty post exemplified for us all. I would say the playing field is about even, although I'm more than open to hearing reasons otherwise that are actually based on fact, not grievances about software that you don't even need to use.

nomadewolf, I suppose you liked win xp without the fire wall, and without some built in anti virus, and just loved how it got viruses after being just connected 10 minutes to the internet.
Oh as for your complaints, you can remove media player, internet explorer, you don't need to use system restore, ready boost only works if you make a flash drive work that way, and BSOD's now I know your kidding, or using a really bad computer to get that with Win 7.

See Win 7 has full 64 bit support but they can't drop 32 bit support for one reason, if you though the whining about Vista was bad just multiply that by 1000 and the death of Microsoft.
See Microsoft has to support over 1 billion computers, a lot of people to deal with. Now lets looks at Mac OSX 10.? They support what around 100 million a lot more that a few years back, but still pretty easy when you control all apps on it and hardware, I mean if Microsoft tried any of this, guess what Monopoly trial. Know why we get crapware on computers because the DOJ believed it was wrong of Microsoft not to allow that stuff on computers. To Linux, tried it didn't like it, and what is the user base for that, what like 15 million in it's strongest flavor. Not dissing it but when you serve a small base it is easier to do things without upsetting a lot of people.

Also what makes you thing that you can afford a $2,500 computer from apple when you can't clearly afford a $800 from any other vendor, or you can't do it or self for the same amount and it will match what Apple can offer.

Truth be told both Apple and Microsoft are Corporations, there main job is to make money for the share holders.
Apple got it right, lock people into your hardware then charge through the roof for upgrades or software.

nomadewolf, I suppose you liked win xp without the fire wall, and without some built in anti virus, and just loved how it got viruses after being just connected 10 minutes to the internet.

Let's see...
MAC OS:
Faster
Smaller
Smarter
(Almost) Full 64bit
Multi-core
OpenCL

W7:
Taskbar
(a bit) Faster
(a bit) Smaller
Stuff that i don't need/want/like/use (but have to endure anyway...) like:
Windows Defender
Windows Firewal
Media Player
Internet Explorer
System Restore (just backup and format, Win works much faster!)
Ready Boost
BSODs

Where did Micro$oft get it right, this time, again?

Until i can afford a MacBook Pro my OS is Linux Mint + WINE

Cheers

The one thing that has always stopped me from going MAC is the cost. I build my own rigs and you can not do the with MAC. My cousin's iMAC failed and was told she needed to replace a logic board would cost $800. The board was $500 and labor was $300, WTF.

I can say for a fact that Vista did indeed suck. I used it at launch and it killed my mid-level gaming rig and I recently used Vista SP1 on my current rig which is easily 3 times more powerful and it still ran slow compared to WinXP and Win7. Both were complete clean installs with no other programs running.
I had to update my old rig to 2GB of memory just to get Vista to run without any mouse lack and forget about trying to run any games or even photoshop with out a lease 4GB.
The improvements in the OS were out weighted be the heavy load on system resource that it used compared to WinXP.
But I am loving Win7 and have retired my WinXP disc. It took MS 8 years to make a OS better than WinXP.

As a Network Administrator who also does planning, purchasing and deployment of Software and Hardware i can say that with out a doubt Apple Mac will never make it in the business world for a couple of reasons.

1. Too Expensive. For example: if i am purchasing and deploying 200 workstations i can buy Windows based desktops with 2gb ram, dual core 2.5ghz and so on plus with a 3 year warranty for approx $400-500. even just $100 per machine extra for a Mac is $20,000 (every 3 years). Also, no the Mac mini does not cut it and is also too expensive.

2. Lack of central administration for many elements.

3. Active Directory integration is non existent and not good enough other than for home folders and log ins.

4. The few Macs i do have on this network don't have good network print support. I had to special order more expensive printers at one point for the minority Macs.

5. i won't even go into lack of software support for business apps (no i am not talking about microsoft office).

6. Security is not as granular and again lack of central organization. You can't compare to how granular Group Policies are and how tight you can make security with relative ease on networked Windows Workstations.

I could list more points but i think you get the picture. Bottom line is to go Mac you would need to over hall pretty much everything from bottom to top on your network. The initial and ongoing costs are too high plus not to mention time ($) involved.

Anyone that says that Vista sucks either has no idea what they are talking about, or hasn't gotten the modern version of their software. There is always someone that is going to complain about everything.

Nonetheless, Windows 7 is honestly the best operating system developed by Microsoft for a while...

My 2.5 year experience with an iMac and OS X convinced (sp?) me that OS X is a superior product to windows 7 and even more so than XP. The problem is that you cannot install a good processor and video card when the technology advances on a reasonably priced (iMac). My "older" iMac is just too slow. You have to spring for a Mac Pro which is at least $1,000 and have to pay for Mac compatible card if you upgrade. I'm sold on Windows 7.

You have to spring for a Mac Pro which is at least $1,000 and have to pay for Mac compatible card if you upgrade. I'm sold on Windows 7.
