I don't know who has kicked Microsoft in the behind recently, but I must applaud them.

Still... I'd be interested to see how it compares with the AVG Free monster on my system. God I hate that thing.

I'm currently using MSE and I love it over AVG free. AVG is still pretty heavy on system resources (compared to MSE at least) and is annoying with popups and gave me way too many false positives. MSE has been perfect for me so far on 32-bit Windows 7 RC. And it really seems to have absolutely zero effect on system performance. I actually timed my boot time difference before and after MSE and it's exactly the same... kinda weird actually. I've never seen a single antivirus program be so friendly on resources. I'm a little surprised this program came from Microsoft actually. Not like them to design such an unbloated piece of software. With Windows 7, Bing, and now MSE, Microsoft really seems to be turning over a new leaf. Next they really need to rewrite Internet Explorer from scratch with performance in mind.

You should mention that it will be a limited beta unless they changed that in the meantime :)

There will not be a firewall with MSE.

However, you're right. A firewall is included with Windows.

Instead of including a firewall with MSE, just use the Windows Firewall.

Will appreciate some clarification.

There is built-in firewall with Vista and Windows-7. Bit confused about including or not-including a firewall with MSE.

I like the direction MS is going with this, but they need to add firewall controls, process monitor and spyware blocker.
I use these free security programs:

1. Avira AntiVir Personal
2. BillP Studios WinPatrol
3. Javacool Sftwr. SpywareBlaster
4. Malwarebytes Corp Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
5. Sphinx Sftwr. Vista Firewall Control

They all have retail version with more features, but I find the free version have all I need.
