Please Help Test Windows 7 News In Mobile Browsers

View Comments June 14, 2009 | Everton

Update: I have turned this off as readers have asked for the full experience on their phones, rather than a ‘WAP’ site.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve spotted a growing amount of traffic from mobile browsers to Windows 7 News, so I’ve decided to install a mobile theme to make the site easier to read on mobiles.  The theme should be automatically displayed if you visit the site with a mobile browser, but I only have Windows Mobile handsets (6.1 and 6.5) to test it with, so could readers please test the site with other devices.

I’m particularly interested in whether the site works properly on iPhones and Android phones.  I’ve spotted three bugs so far (related posts & tags don’t display and ALL the site Pages are displayed when they shouldn’t).  Please let me know if you spot any other ones, or if there’s functionality from the main site like search that you want adding to the mobile theme.

Theme features:

  • auto-browser detection
  • Automatically removes interactivity and media elements (such as script, Flash, movies, and embedded frames) from the posts and pages depending on handset capability
  • Breaks large pages into smaller ones to make easier to read and load
  • Shrinks images to fit smaller screens
  • Simplifies styling to ensure mobile compatibility

All of this goodness is made available by the WordPress Mobile Pack.

    Thanks for the feedback/help everyone
