Countries like Norway get all these things with single market agreements without having to join the EU. The idea that the UK wouldn't get these benefits without being a EU member and having to implement some of the less popular EU policies is just scarmongering to keep the UK in the EU.

Isn't it time that the UK withdraw from the EU, the don't seem to do anything for the UK except produce more bureaucracy. Perhaps Microsoft should be allowed to produce a EU compliant SKU and a Non compliant SKU and let the customer decide!

That was stupid on the EU's part. There's plenty of competition with browsers and IE is always on the losing side. Why did they feel they had to stick their noses in that? Some things simply don't require government intervention. If they're like that with everything, they need to substitute the E with an S, as in Soviet.

Well, it's not what EU have done as some people incline. EU tried for the best and MS got "offended" and came back with the nastiest solution they could think off...

I don't believe they are going to carry this through, or even if they do, there will be a link in place of IE to actually install it or something like that. Anything else would really hurt them...

that might be because IE is really lacking when compared to Firefox and Opera in just about every area. That is why they are losing so much market share and the other browsers mainly Firefox are gaining.

To be honest the only time I ever use IE is when I am forced to by a site that been badly developed so it will only show on IE properly. I'm including some of Microsofts own sites in this.

They'll probably put it up for download on Windows Update anyway. Besides, Is it REALLY hard to put Opera or whatever software on CD and install it later?

As I understand it, and I do run 2 browsers for this reason, MS does not allow some downloads and products if you don't use their browser. Now that must mean that the EU won't get those products without IE, or MS is going to have to change their practices.
The computer manufacturers are going to make a killing on this deal, they will be able to charge what ever they want to load the browser of your choice on new systems, those browsers you download for free.

What I don't understand is why Apple is allowed to ship OSX with Safari. And most Linux Distros ship with Firefox.
I think the rules should at least apply to every OS.

This is quite pointless as most people will install IE8 to then download another browser, as I doubt anyone would get something like Firefox on a disk =/
Plus in my opinion IE isn't a great threat to other browsers, as even people who don't know much about computers prefer others.

Not that I am a a fan of IE, but hey... the OS is their product, it is ridiculous to force them to ship without IE. You already have the option to uninstall it if you dont like it.

and hell yes... it is gonna be fun to watch dudes installing Windows without IE... good luck getting another browser.
