I don´t know why people are so angry. I think that taskbar are pretty difficult to some of the users and I don´t like it myself. While it is prettier sametime I think it´s quite annoying. An while win7 is good OS i do not think it is that much better than vista. Hoping win8 would bring something better

Ahh. Also pls drop the "windows" name for the root system folder, all other OS's use "System" (BeOS, QNX, Haiku, AROS, OSX, Next/Open/GNUSTEP)/"System Folder" (OS9) for that particular root folder.

Ahh. I forgot to say:
Win7 should have included the much promised WinFS
The M$ security essentials should have had it's own firewall also to replace the windows one
Explorer should default to thumbnail/large icon view (not detailed view)
UAC should have been set to ask credentials for admin and fail silently for non-admin (Linux does it this way)
UAC should use aero-glass if it is running
The "system" notification icons (battery, WIFI, etc) should have been colored and not b/w
the WIFI applet have issues to autodetect WEP settings (my AP is set to wep because my nephews often want to use my AP to get their nintendo DS's (which lack WPA/WPA2 support) online and play mario-kart online).
Win7 should have supported read/write to ext2/ext3/ext4 (opensource and fairly popular fs's)
Now besides those annoyances/issues, the OS is, to be fair, better than the legacy (XP and earlier) M$ OS's,
It can't compete with M$ Linux 11.2milestone3 though.

The things that got me pissed from win7 are:
No possibility to have more than one "taskbar"
No way to move the "taskbar" items around or to another "taskbar"
Windows explorer archive manager lacks support for all the other archive formats (.rar, .7z, .cab, .kgb, .ace, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, etc)
Windows explorer STILL (since win9x) "forgets" it's view settings
They need to make the shutdown and hibernate screens be like the boot and resume ones respectivelly and make them use a background that have other color different than black
They need to make their bootloader themeable and able to autodetect non-M$ OS's
Make it able to have the titlebar buttons moved around in the titlebar
Make it's drop shadows customizable (depth, darkness, radius) and apply drop shadows to the drop down menus and whichever "taskbar" happens to be set on the top edge of the desktop
Allow creation of launchers whose sole purpose is opening a "jumplist" with losts of application/script/location shorouts when the "special" launcher is clicked and make the launcher be an icon, a label or both
Allow Mac-like top menubar option
Make a compiz-fusion like plugin interfce for the aero-glass visual effects system
AND MAKE WINDOWS CHEAPER, USE A LESS RESTRICTIVE LICENSE AND DON'T PUT BUILT-IN SPYWARE/DRM/KEYLOGGERS/PHONE HOME SOFTWARE ALL ALONG THE BLODDY THING.

so if this is a flaw, then Mac's dock has been messed up ever since because it has the exact same implementation (or in your case, "flaw")?

seriously, this isn't a big deal. If people can't figure out how to solve this simple issue, then they shouldn't even be using computers at all.

find some other, more legitimate problem will ya.

so if this is a flaw, then Mac's dock has been messed up ever since because it has the exact same implementation (or in your case, "flaw")?

seriously, this isn't a big deal. If people can't figure out how to solve this simple issue, then they shouldn't even be using computers at all.

find some other, more legitimate problem will ya.

Wow, are you a noob or what?! THATS your biggest complaint? Stick with Vista then buddy. the 7 taskbar is awesome. I have a widescreen 22" monitor, so I have my taskbar on the left side vertically with about 10 icons in it, and NO desktop icons. The bar does everything I want and more, while looking better than your mom naked.

you're right! middle click is much easier - i think the author is nitpicking big time, the bar looks completely different so hopefully the user will understand that there might be a slight learning curve - then again, people are stupid

Task Bar is a dream, compared to the network management system. In XP i could share files and folders in just a few clicks. No problems at all. In windows 7 i was never able to share a f*C*i*g folder!!! It's the most complex, stupid, unhelpful thing that Microsoft ever made. XP's network management was almost perfect, all it was lacking was the "Turn On/Off Network discovery" for security options, and the new wireless networking system...

All you do is keep bitching about the taskbar, but it's completely fine. In any older versions of Windows, you couldn't even open a program from the taskbar, so what are you complaining about? You now have the ability to pin your favorites to the taskbar, and if one of them isn't open, you can do it quickly from the taskbar. Once one is open, now left clicking it is minimize, just like before. This isn't a big problem, and people can quickly figure out that once a program is open, left clicking is now minimize. Sure many novice users will have to open programs the old way, and not know about the cool jumplists, but that's what happens when you're uninformed. I'm sure there will be an introduction to Windows for people to read if they so choose when they first run the OS, but if they choose not to and don't know about jumplists, then it's their loss for being stupid. So stop bitching about the taskbar because Microsoft did a great job with it.

Am I the only one here that realizes that clicking the third mouse button opens another instance??? However I think that left clicking any program with at least one instance should minimize all of that program's windows. Also, a program with just one instance should have a thumbnail preview. I also think the thumbnail previews should have a little minimize/restore button.

I'd also have to disagree with this article. While the Windows 7 taskbar is a mix between a quicklaunch toolbar and a taskbar, it's still more of a taskbar. I think it would be more disturbing for people used to the old taskbarbehaviour to find that a new instance is opened everytime you click on the icon, instead of minimizing the program. If you want an easy way of launching a new instance of your favorite program, make a shortcut on the desktop or startmenu instead.
