It is obviously a bit early to run Windows 7 Benchmarks as the operating system is still in beta and release candidate stage which usually means that that the performance is not where it will be when it is released. Still; Benchmarks are great for having a first comparison between old and new operating systems.

The hardware 2.0 blog over at ZDnet did exactly that. And while we are not exactly fond of how they are presenting the data the results are looking bright for Windows 7.

A series of 31 tests was conducted on two test systems. The first system was using an AMD Phenom 9700 2.4 GHz cpu, 4 Gigabytes of RAM and an Ati Radeon 3850. The second computer system consisted of an Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 2.2 GHz cpu with an NVIDIA Gefore 8400 GS video card and 1 Gigabytes of RAM.

All tests were conduced on several operating systems including Windows 7 build 7048 64-bit, Windows 7 build 7000 64-bit and 32-bit, Windows Vista SP1 32-bit and Windows XP SP3 32-bit.

The 32-bit edition of Windows 7 build 7000 was placed first on the Intel system and third on the AMD system. The 64-bit edition of Windows 7 build 7048 ranked second on the Intel system and first on the AMD system while the 64-bit edition of Windows 7 build 7000 managed to rank third on the Intel system and second on the AMD system.
