I planning to buy a new PC with Windows 7 and directly skipped and bypassed Windows Vista as it is too problematic from what I heard from everybody.

Currently using a PC for more than 4 years already and may not hold out before Windows 7 and DDR3 memory arrived.

When is Windows 7 going to be out?

I don't want to spend money on a new PC with Windows Vista and then spend a few hundreds on Windows 7 a few months later.

Hey Johnny,
I totally agree with you on that note. I think a lot of it comes down to where you live. Out here in California they have been pushing for quite some time now. Adelphia was planning on running some extreme internet but had been bought out before they could deploy it. Time Warner was offering decent speeds compared to DSL in the area but at a hefty price. Verizon upped the ante with deploying their FiOS everywhere in the area and it is quickly spreading through California. I know a lot of the lines are shared as we had the incident recently where someone cut several AT&T fiber lines which knocked out cell service to Verizon customers. I think the biggest shame is that so many people are left out of the upgrades. I think it is unfair as well they tend to be the ones that are paying at a premium price. I think that if they’re going to roll out FiOS it should be nationwide. Jobs will come of it as well it can be a standard. Rent may be cheaper where you’re located but Cable should not be 90 dollars a month unless it is an internet/tv/phone package. Time Warner has never really impressed me. I think that Verizon and some others are doing a fair job but there is a lot of room for improvement.
There are a lot more decent all in one machines showing up these days and many more will come as Windows 7 gets closer to deployment. I know I will have one for sure. There is a Apple Fanboy who shows up here at the coffee shop that brings in his 24” iMac and lights candles (No Joke). He’s also one to pick up on little girls and wears workout gloves as he “Programs” on his Mac. Looking him up from his business card he comes up as a registered sex offender. I would love nothing more than to walk in with a 25.5” Touch based all in one desktop with Windows 7. I’m sure he would sh*t himself.
As far as the weather goes it has been very nice 68-72 lately until the past few days. Today we’re almost peaking 100 degrees. Weather report has it that it should be cooling down and see some rain here soon. That will be nice as this weather doesn’t seem to have any consistency.

Until Next Time,

Chris,
I agree that fiber IS the way of the future. L.A. has it manditory that all homes and businesses be wired for it. Why are all other cities still lagging behind so far?

As for the infamous Time Warner. I can't understand how they get away with what they do. I live in Milwaukee and their corruption was a bit more obvious to the casual observer when they came to town. As with all municipalities cable, many years ago, went out for bid. One of the bidders was a company called "The 3 C's". (All the principles last names began with "C") This company was started by three women, and one was an Afro American. Hence, three minorities of which one was a double minority.

Time Warner got very nervous about the possibility of losing out to theses women. Sooooo ..... in their quest to always be "Top Dog" they approached, and "Paid Off" each Alderman on the Common Council $10,000.00 for their vote, in cash, and of course "Under The Table".

What they didn't count on was the F.B.I. getting wind of it. Their was a full scale White Collar Crimes Unit investigation that revealed that the allegations were indeed true. Now the tough part. Do they take them to court, which would take years, and cost a lot of taxpayer money, or tell them to give the cash back and slap their hands. The proper solution was deemed to be cost prohibited. The money was given back and they got the contract anyway.Right now the average cable bill, with no extreme services is about $90.00/Month. WAY too high for some senior citizens on Social Security.

They are now advertising that Road Runner is faster than Basic DSL. True, but with a catch. They don't tell the public. Their fastest Roadrunner vs: the lowest DSL speed offered. Blatent false advertising techniques.

Now is several years later, AND they think that it all has been "Swept Under The Rug" and forgotten. Only one problem. It's Public Record and anyone can still see it IF they only look. My job? Get them to look before they buy. O.K., maybe I am like Don Quiote, and will forever chase Windmills. But trying is half the fun. I love playing David vs: Goliath syndrones.

I think I will check out this Asus thing a little further. However, I DO like the Navanut display.

Well it's a balmy 69 degrees, here in Milwaukee, time to go out and play with the other kid's. I'm alway looking for love in all the wrong places! How's your weather wherever your at?

Later ..... John

I agree that fiber IS the way of the future. L.A. has it manditory that all homes and businesses be wired for it. Why are all other cities still lagging behind so far?

As for the infamous Time Warner. I can’t understand how they get away with what they do. I live in Milwaukee and their corruption was a bit more obvious to the casual observer when they came to town. As with all municipalities cable, many years ago, went out for bid. One of the bidders was a company called “The 3 C’s”. (All the principles last names began with “C”) This company was started by three women, and one was an Afro American. Hence, three minorities of which one was a double minority.

Time Warner got very nervous about the possibility of losing out to theses women. Sooooo ….. in their quest to always be “Top Dog” they approached, and “Paid Off” each Alderman on the Common Council $10,000.00 for their vote, in cash, and of course “Under The Table”.

What they didn’t count on was the F.B.I. getting wind of it.

They don’t tell the public. Their fastest Roadrunner vs: the lowest DSL speed offered. Blatent false advertising techniques.

Now is several years later, AND they think that it all has been “Swept Under The Rug” and forgotten. Only one problem. It’s Public Record and anyone can still see it IF they only look. My job? Get them to look before they buy. O.K., maybe I am like Don Quiote, and will forever chase Windmills. But trying is half the fun. I love playing David vs: Goliath syndrones.

I think I will check out this Asus thing a little further. However, I DO like the Navanut display.

Well it’s a balmy 69 degrees, here in Milwaukee, time to go out and play with the other kid’s. I’m alway looking for love in all the wrong places! How’s your weather wherever your at?

Comcast has been a cable provider but in my area they provide on Fiber Optic lines. They offer speeds up to 50mbps. I have not had any issues thus far... Knock on wood. I get quite a constant stream with no breaks. Another benefit is the line presently is not being paid for by me otherwise it would be a 50mbps line. I honestly believe a lot of it matters what area you're in. Time Warner I agree was a very big rip off. Their service sucked and even with their "EXTREME" internet 10/1 line was quite pathetic. I commonly had speeds of about 8.9m/768k. For the price they can keep their line. Down south we ended up going with Verizon FiOS which has so far been excellent. A very stable 20/5 line which is always a pleasure to use.

The Asus came with a similar feature that they call "Splendid" which allows the computer to adjust all system settings for your preference. I like the lighting to be full but darker colors. I guess as tattoo artists call it "POP" where it really stands out. It works well. The only problem is that is a Asus utility and not really one they sell on the shelf.

All in due time everything will come together. I'm contemplating on a purchase of a all-in-one computer with touch screen. This would be ideal for Windows 7 :D

Chris,
A "Bit" more! A small pun on my part. He, He, He!
If I am not mistaken, Comcast is a cable provider like Time Warner. Ever notice that they won't gurantee their Up/Down speeds? AT&T does. Ever wonder why? They can't because they go through a cable server that "Loads Down" with the number of people on the Internet in your area. Kids on Twitter, Facebook, Surfing, etc. take up a lot of data usage slowing down us serious users. I researched the "Pro's and Con's" of both before I made my move to DSL. DSL won hands down! I've seen cable Internet sppeds drop down to 314 Kbps.
I have run in to things that make the eyes less "Bloodshot" from staring at the screen for long periods of time. The 8530p has an ambient light sensor with an anti-glare screen. This helps qiuite a bit. But, best of all, I found a product, through a Microsoft download called"Windows Theme Novanut". Softens the display which also helps the eyes greatly. Microsoft can't take credit for it since it was written in Canada by another company.
Want to look into something you might not discovered yet? Go to Intel.com and search "vPro". Let's me manage networks I maintain for my customer base remotly. Turned off, or on, I can wake up a computer system, or individual Workstation, do my thing and then return the Network to it's original state. All transparently in the silent background. It is Processor based, not software based, making it virtually unpenitratible from the outside world.

Later again .....

Chris,
After communicating with you for a while I think you are ready for a small quiz! Now, that's only if your up for a challenge.

When IBM built their first Mainframe Computer it was built with, what would be called today, "Old Technology". This old technology was called vacuum tubes.
Here's the challange. Each vacuum tube was a 12AX7A dual diode, or dual-triode. Each diode could be associated with a "One", or a "Zero" in the Binary language. Memory was a matrix of wires criss crossing through ferrite beads that could have a magnetic charge similar to the polarity of North and South ploes of a magnet (A "One"), or a reverse magnetic charge (A "Zero"). You either changed the polarity of the charge, or left it alone. Hence the term "Bit".  This was how "Memory access"  and "Storage" was accomplished.
Each 12AX7A has a tungsten"Filament" that produced an emmission of electrons towards another component called a "Plate". Control of this flow was accomplished with another element called a "Grid". By changing the charge on the grid one could control the flow of electrons from "Filament" to "Plate". That explains the function of the vacuum tube used.
Now, in today's world we have a solid-state device that does the same thing. However, the construction is different. Materials are "Doped" on a Silicon Substrate, or base material. Two diferent types of this material are used. Arsenic and Antimony Trisulfide. Fine gold wires are attached and the result is what Bell Labs created, way back when, called the transistor. Many could be deposited on one Silicon wafer, or substrate. These were called Integrated Circuits, the forerunner to the Microprocessor. A modern day Microprocessor has literally millions deposited on one Silicon wafer.
To keep them from "Crossing" into each other's "Playground", or "Sandbox", barriers or "Walls" had to be created to prevent this as transistor density increased. If You research the name GUCKEL you will find a college professor, that was at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, that was quite the creator of these "Barriers". Guess what my last name is!
Now, enough of the theory. A simple fact is that, one of the benefits of this modern Transistor, is considerably lower amounts of heat generated in doing it's similar function previously accomplished by the vacuum tube.
The challenge. How many 12AX7A vacuum tubes does it take to be equivelent to 1 B.T.U. (British Thermal Units) of heat energy? And how many B.T.U.'s did the first IBM Mainframe generate in radiant heat energy?
The result will be a figure that can be offset with cooling, or Air Conditioning.
Part two! How much energy input was required to produce the heat, and how many B.T.U.'s of Air Conditioning did it take to offset the heat produced?
Part three! Given today's energy costs, say based on California Utility charges, did it cost to run the entire process? I fugure this research might take you just a little while. No hurry, take your time.
I will tell you this. I grew up near Poughkeepsie, New York. The home of IBM. And yes, I did personally see this first Mainframe Computer.
Later ..... John

Johnny,

I very much agree. I think a lot of it is how the message is put across. Logical and reasonable thinking and explanations tend to work best.

The main reason I think it is nice to have a refreshing interface is more on a psychological level. If your work environment part of which is your computer is more appealing and easier on the eyes should help many. I’ve been fine with XP but it is a lot nicer having a cleaner interface. Also the fact now I can tone down the obnoxious colors. I could only imagine that giving someone a seizure. There were a lot of tweaks and hacks to bypass that yes but I think it would be nice to give the user an option to make the desktop theme look and feel the way they would like it to. I always like a darker theme. It is easier on the eyes and uses less power in a laptop for instance to display. If you can get away with it looking great and using the same system resources that XP does then why not?

I have several different machines I run. I like that HP it looks like a good choice. My Mother worked for HP for 17 years so I of course am a fan of the company and their products. My desktop is home built disaster. I have an older Antec server tower case. Corsair 750W Power supply. Asus Maximus Formula motherboard. 4GB as of present DDR2 PC9200 OCz. Intel Quad Core E6600 2.4Ghz. nVida GeForce 8800GTX. 1TB Hitachi SATAII 7200RPM 32mb Cache and 500GB Hitachi SATAII 7200RPM 32mb cache…  For laptop use I have a Asus G2S which I bumped up to 4GB of RAM as it is still a bit pricy for me to go to 8GB as of yet. I also am looking to get either a 320GB or 500GB SATAII 7200RPM drive for it as I just don’t like the bottleneck of 5400RPM as well the tiny 160GB drive. I also have the Asus Eee PC 4G bumped to 2GB and eeectl overclocked running Windows 7 Lite/Core build. I’m looking at upgrading/overhauling the desktop and getting two more laptops. Desktop items are a bit long to list but I’m sure you’d agree with the items. Laptop wise is the only 18.4” they offer of Asus off of newegg for 2k and the Eee PC 1000G with a 9.5 hour battery life. I will probably end up selling the G2S and giving away the 4G to a family member or just put it on the shelf as a memory of being one of the first to get one almost a year before others started showing up.

For home use for the network I run the standard Comcast RCA modem to a Linksys WRT54GLS which is a nice compact unit which great throughput both through hard line and wireless. The connection I have running is a 16/2 which I’ve easily passed as well has the odd power boost which for the first like 20MB of a file I will hit 20Mbit or pass from time to time. Average download speeds off torrents when downloading say a Windows 7 build I can average up to 1.2MB a second. Decent setupi I think but there is always better out there. I still need to keep in mind getting a house, newer car and working on my project car.

Let me know some other product numbers so I can look them up. It appears you have some good taste.

Chris,

I see that we do think alike with our opinions of Apple. I also hear the masses bragging about "You Don't See Virus's on a MAC". What world are they living in?

When you talk about smooth transitions in graphics and Icons I see what you mean. However, being a guy, who wants production and efficiency, I could care less about the "Pretty" aspects of display. I suppose if I worked more with graphics, or was a gamer, it would be different.

I will take your advise and check out that freeware site.

If you want to see what hardware I am running go to www.hp.com/sbso and search 8530p. That will show you my HP Elitebook. L7780 will show you my Officejet Pro printer. I think the specs will impress you. It costs about 2 Grand. I also have the 12-Cell Ultra High Capacity L-ion battery pack. Takes me out to a day on battery power alone. Also running 4 GB of RAM. Changed out the Optical Drive to a Blu-Ray drive. Gives me 50 GB on one disc instead of the usual 4.7 GB.
My DSL Modem is a Motorola/Netopia 3347-02 from the AT&T store. What I like is that it isn't a router/Modem combo. It has a 4-port Managed Switch (No speed loss) with Wi-Fi you can disable or enable. It is a connectivity Modem so it is always learning. Even though I subscribe to 768Kbps Up/ 6.0 MB Down I typically see speeds around 8 MD Down, and it has peaked at 20 MB Down from time to time. Sure beats the infamous Time Warner Roadrunner! The Modem costs about 100 Bucks. Not a bad value for what you get.
Keep your motor running!

Johnny,
I must admit I’ve heard time and time again that Apple is a superb graphics engine or great for graphical design. I’ve also heard other arguments that this was due to a slightly better looking UI as well they were the first to have Adobe and other graphic design tools on their machines. The point I’ve been trying to get at is especially now with how Windows 7 looks and feels I see no point in going to the Apple UI as I’m more than satisfied with Windows 7. When it comes to graphical design just about all software is shared across both platforms and the only real difference is the price tag at the store. Most comparisons show that the only advantage on an Apple is Final Cut Pro which has definitely earned its stripes for being an excellent video editing tool. On the PC side you have its rival “Avid” which is a decent contender but you also have Adobe Premier which is on both platforms as well. The new up and coming software which many have said to be the one to dominate Final Cut is called Edius as it has all of the same options but can also edit in real time. The GPU’s used in Apple computers until as of recent has been the very generic Intel chipset which is by far nothing revolutionary. Apple has been trying to work with nVidia lately but we should all already be aware of that dispute. I see nothing on a hardware end of things that would put any Apple computer above and beyond other computers in the market especially being that overpriced. On an OS side of things I can see how Apple had a cleaner interface and definitely looked nicer. XP still has very grainy icons and a very grey classic look in a lot of instances. With the step up to Vista you can see a much smoother and cleaner interface with a lot more attention to detail. Translucent windows is always a nice touch but in my opinion hadn’t been utilized until the development of Windows 7 had started taking place. There are a lot more benefits now as well there is really next to no system usage when it comes to processing those tasks. Running a 64-bit OS I’ve noticed that the system usage tends to stay right around one gigabyte of RAM. I have not run into any issues with memory as well and I have the option to use any video card I wish. I have not really seen any great options when it comes down to this on a Apple computer. Yes Freeware is a great thing if you know what you’re looking for and if you can trust the source. I’ve noticed that going to download dot com they are pretty adamant about only distributing clean software to users. It is a very easy way to look for free software. I remember having to pay 40 dollars for Kitty Spangles for my lady at the time. Never thought solitaire could cost so much but then again that is what you have to deal with on an Apple. On another note there are plenty of reliable software venders that are trusted in the PC market as well. If anything that is the majority of the trusted software market. I know I would never want any iCrap on my computer hence why I don’t use iTunes, QuickTime, Bonjour, Safari and the list goes on. It is nothing but a security risk from what I’ve seen. Apple’s security is a joke as it is. People believe they are safe based on false premonitions. At the tipping point convention it took less than 2 minutes to use Apple’s own software against them to hack into the Mac at the convention. The Windows Vista machine lasted till the last minute until they were able to exploit Java and Adobe Flash Player to gain access to the Vista machine which was also a vulnerability on other platforms as well. The only machine in the trio that managed unscathed was the Ubuntu machine. Oh PC’s are so unsecure… Yeah right… They even asked the guy why attack the Mac? His response was that Apple’s security is a joke and it would be an easy win. Time and time again I get enough facts on Apple which is why I chose not to use them but will not accept others who only repeat what they hear from commercials. I agree there are a lot of similarities and yes they grip about copying search options but people never seem to care about search engines online as they serve similar if not identical functions and results. I can say that all platforms have their benefits and many are similar but it really comes down to in my opinion if you want to be recognized with the cool Apple or the nerdy gamer Windows PC. I’d prefer to use something that isn’t a fashion statement.
I’ve been wanting more to work with PLC’s as we have many at my work and there is another IT Engineer which works primarily with them. It’s just making the time to sit and work with him. This will come in due time.
In conclusion I can say that Windows 7 has been the best build of OS I’ve been able to play with so far. It is very efficient and hassle free. I’m looking forward to when they deploy it into the work place. I just hope this downward economy can find its feet and allow companies to run this very much improved OS.

Johnny,
I must admit I’ve heard time and time again that Apple is a superb graphics engine or great for graphical design.

Chris:
Pertaining to Google I reiterate, it is an infant still growing. As you, and I, evolved from the"Pupa" Stage we made mistakes also.
Now my feelings on Apple? Keep in mind that we are discussing two different animals. The Apple is a superb Graphics Engine. That is why the Graphic Arts people embrase it so much. A number cruncher it is not. And conversly the PC embraces the accounting and statistical world. A Graphic Engine it is not! Now as to the cost differences? A simple analogy. Do you take your chances with Freeware, or go the price of purchasing a known legal product, or better yet "Take aA Chance"? The stability of the tool is the "Prime Directive" in the business world. Do you use your computer for fun or work? For fun some waste their money on the pink laptop and "cutsie" stickers to apply to it. The serious user, one who uses it for job or income, needs something that simply works. Cost is a considered factor, but not the "Prime Directive".
The drunk on the ladder is usually an uncalculated encounter or risk. You don't expect it, but, it can happen.
Another thing about Apple. Know why Leopard is called Leopard? Steve Jobes has a love for cats, big cats, so every O.S. he and Apple creates is named after a big cat. Also it should be pointed out that Bill Gates, and Steve Jobes, were both kids tinkering in a California garage when they created the personal computer. At first they got along with one mission. Then, after a period of time, they had a difference of opinion as to what a PC should be. Steve believed in Icons and a smooth user interface between hardware, programs and user. Bill Gates liked writing code on a command line. Hence, they split forming two seperate companies. Their lifelong differences are relected in the two extremly different PC's.
Cost? It all comes down to "What the Market Will Bear". In other words ..... If you can get the money, take it and run!
Now the "Tuffy"! Our president. They say things that shouldn't be discussed are politics and religion. Very true. My thoughts? The man is an excellent orator. He was a Senator with no experience in presidential matters. And he lived in Illinois, the land of graft and corruption. The land of Al Capone and a recently tarnished "Gov". My Financial Advisor, with the also tarnished Merryl-Lynch put it best. He loved the thrill of running for the presidential office and becoming the first 'Sort of Black" President. But, as to governing? No desire or experience. My thgoughts are ..... "He Talk the Talk ..... Now Let's see if he can Walk the Walk". And as to going th the right direction? He hasn't been in office that long and so far has made a few really bad decisions. Appointing Cabinet people that have dubious pasts or no experience to the post appointed to. As a Vet I can relate all too well with the troup withdrawl. In theory it promises what the bulk of the American people want. However a withdrawl to me is pulling the troops out, not moving them to another "Hot Spot", Afghanistan. In reality a logical mind knows that it will take more than one or two administrations to remedy the problems. At best, building blocks can be put in place, but don't expect resolution.
Now back to the serious stuff. LINUX is a good O.S., however, it does not "Play Well in the Sandbox" with quite a bit of software. Some mainstream, some obscure. I don't think it will ever become a major player. UNIX? Like QNX it is targeted at a different area than where most users play.
Hey, have you dabbled with PLU's and PLC's. Now THAT'S machine code on a real time level. Screw the Interpetors, full spped ahead!
I have a little programming background. Enough to be Johnny Dangerously. Fortran IV, Pascal, ONX, Cobol and RPG 2 just to mention a few.
Keep it going ..... we are learning ..... together!

Very good to know. I've seen quite a lot in my time as well and I admit I am a bit young but always have been eager to learn. Technology has always been my thing with people as well I like to dive in and take risks. Luckily I haven't seen many issues in the past and typically think outside the box with technical issues I deal with. Most other people in my field have argued my methodology but if it works they sit stunned. I must say I think many people put Vista in deeper than it needed to be. Most of which was bad press especially by Apple. Most people were unaware that OSX Leopard had been known as Leoptard because it had more issues upon launch than Vista ever had. Microsoft has made its many mistakes in the past and with a new CEO who is taking full control will show how a big company as Microsoft can turn on a quarter but not so much a dime. There is night and day difference between Windows 7 and previous Microsoft operating systems. Steve Ballmer pretty much halted all little projects and slowed most larger projects to put all efforts at getting Windows 7 launched correctly. I've seen more stability in Windows 7 on initial beta release then that I had when XP had hit RC stages. They have made various improvements yet one big hurdle for XP users is to get everything upgraded that was another reason many people have and had been hesitant to upgrade to Vista. No slick little upgrade one click go like from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Vista users can easily upgrade to Windows 7 but not older users.

I have a love/hate relationship with Google. I've enjoyed their search engine and email offerings but when looking at the bigger picture they stumble. Their android G1 phone had many fans and as well many haters. I think the phone is very creative but a bit clunky. When it comes down to their business ethics older fellows would not quite last nor even have the chance at getting hired in the past at Google. They tend to target younger people as they are innovative and open minded. On the other hand they know how easily people are mislead just as many are by Apple commercials. Even in one of Apple's legal statements had mentioned that if anyone believes their advertisements or claims are purely idiots. I sure as hell know I would never want to follow and abide by that dictatorship.

One thing that I feel is true is that anything can happen. A company like Microsoft could disappear overnight or develop a new platform that will take the market by storm. There is a lot of innovation going to this project from them. I respect their efforts. I love Unix and Linux but on the other hand I don't think that companies like Tyco Electronics will be switching the whole company and its subsidiaries to that platform.

I do feel that this country is behind and it is quite stupid. We'd like to still praise ourselves and finally with a real president we can see how far behind we are. Now it is time to play catch up and get back on track to be a competitive nation we once were.  We are heading the right direction now.

I honestly think that if you have a spare machine sitting around even an older one give Windows 7 a trial run. Just take a peek. I'd used Vista for years where people complained. I've been told at my last company that I couldn't run Vista because it wont work. I did prove them wrong. Vista not only worked it also outperformed others who were using XP and OSX. On the other hand I did get more static from the Mac user as he would brag and boast how he could do all these neat things which Vista did as well. When I showed what Vista could do he was actually impressed. Go figure a Apple die hard liking Vista where most XP users bash it.

I personally think that a little more playing around with new software that comes out allows you not only to be very much familiar with the latest and sometimes greatest that comes out puts you ahead of the pack when others desperately try to figure out anything new after they hear it will be mainstream. Most people had no clue what XP was by the time I'd been running it for over a year. PC's cost next to nothing these days so having one as a play machine for new software should be easy and cost effective. I even run Windows 7 on my Eee PC 4G Asus with no issues and no lag. Runs faster and more stable than XP. Got to love it.

All I can really say is don't fear it especially if it is on an isolated machine. Give it a try and have some fun. They even have all in one machines with touch for 550 on newegg. Asus brand.

I agree with you fully about experience. The ladder analogy is very accurate but also think of the variations. You can have a fat drunken slob trying to climb the ladder which can barely support him or you could have a master martial artist such as the infamous Bruce Lee or now Jackie Chan take on the ladder. Understand that most people in the workplace more so resemble people up and downing the ladder where IS is supposed to be the ones at the top already and if they need to can run up the next ladder.

I think you make a lot of valid points but I think is it okay if you have fun with it. I really just do it for fun and like to help things be better than saying they have too much money. If you wont help Microsoft do you hate Apple that much more for ripping off their customers?  ;-)

I sure as hell know I would never want to follow and abide by that dictatorship.

One thing that I feel is true is that anything can happen. A company like Microsoft could disappear overnight or develop a new platform that will take the market by storm. There is a lot of innovation going to this project from them. I respect their efforts. I love Unix and Linux but on the other hand I don’t think that companies like Tyco Electronics will be switching the whole company and its subsidiaries to that platform.

I do feel that this country is behind and it is quite stupid. We’d like to still praise ourselves and finally with a real president we can see how far behind we are. Now it is time to play catch up and get back on track to be a competitive nation we once were.  We are heading the right direction now.

I honestly think that if you have a spare machine sitting around even an older one give Windows 7 a trial run. Just take a peek. I’d used Vista for years where people complained. I’ve been told at my last company that I couldn’t run Vista because it wont work.

Most people had no clue what XP was by the time I’d been running it for over a year. PC’s cost next to nothing these days so having one as a play machine for new software should be easy and cost effective. I even run Windows 7 on my Eee PC 4G Asus with no issues and no lag. Runs faster and more stable than XP. Got to love it.

All I can really say is don’t fear it especially if it is on an isolated machine.

If you wont help Microsoft do you hate Apple that much more for ripping off their customers?Â

O.K. Chris, no offense intended on my end either. The bong thing I must admit was a cheap shot on my part. Sorry!
Want to try an advanced O.S.? Google "QNX". It's written in Kanata, Ontario, Canada. Story behind it is that some guys from "UNIX" got tired of a company that didn't clean up their code, had too fat a kernal and basically was "Sitting Back On Their Laurels". Just like another company I won't mention.  So they started their own software company called Quantum Software Systems, and having a sense of humor, called their  O.S. "ONX". An obvious takeoff of the name UNIX.
It is an O.S. targeted to the Industrial Automation area. Their first success story? Eastman Kodak company. Using several processors, pipeline technology and their O.S., produced the world's fastest print processor. Now outmoded by digital technology, film is out, but print processing still exists. For now.
I am quite a bit older than you, therefore I feel a little more experienced with the evolution of our field of endeavor. I kind of take a "Show Me" attitude, since I have seen many Operating Systems come and go. It's like climbing a ladder. Each rung is a step towards a higher level, but, we sometimes loose our balance and have to take a step down to keep the ladder upright and ourselves on the ladder.
I honestly think that, from past experience, Microsoft is a large corporate entity. It can't "Turn On A Dime" like smaller companies. ie: Google. They innovate, not always in a positive direction, but is essentially is an infant still learning. Get it?
Enjoy you candor and response. Keep it going. It is true that we learn from each other!

I'm sorry if my original post came off as arrogant or offensive but I don't entirely blame the country for not jumping on the Vista bus as it didn't get rave reviews. Windows 7 on the other hand has had nothing but great press so far. It will be a great step in my opinion in the right direction. There is no need for a pee pee contest here. I work for Tyco Electronics AD&M and we use XP Pro as a standard as well. My title states IT Engineering Analyst but when it boils down to it I do IS/IT/DS as well work on databases of many flavors and am also working on getting more so into programming. I've been using computers and destroying computers since I could walk and talk. I've seen all the different operating systems and remember when people would bash XP prior to release. I did nothing but stand by it and still do but we need advance in technology and demand. What I had been partially trying to explain is that likely people such as yourself get stuck on the past and disregard the importance of the future hence why this country is behind in the technology race among other things. Another thing is saying things about not wanting to use beta because you may catch fire(very poor analogy) since you're quite unlikely to face death among other things using a beta. I've had no bad luck nor data lost in any way(knock on wood) in all my experience testing alpha and beta software from Microsoft. I find it just find if you'd like to stick with the old and never advance. I prefer to have a drive for constant success and renewal. Life never stops for someone like me because I'm always moving ahead and prefer not to stand still in XP land. There has been a lot that has gone into Windows 7 as well into Vista if you would have been up to date on operating systems. Part of which had been implemented in Vista SP1 as they did slim down the kernel as they used 95% of the code base from Server 2008 SP1. This produced much better performance, stability and less system usage. Working with Windows 7 they have removed much of the bloat and very much more are thinking not only green on a power consumption note but also taking this next version of Windows very seriously. Do some research it should help clarify things for you. I think you have a great argument but look into some of the things first. Also don't hesitate to send feedback to Microsoft. Your comment of never sending feedback is like seeing someone getting raped and just turning a blind eye instead of helping out. I only used an analogy as such to attempt to match you catching on fire using beta software statement. I'm glad to see you fail to help the cause and only come to the forums to announce that you are in no way shape or form here to help but only to post negative comments on Microsoft's future endeavors. I hope you enjoy XP and enjoy staying with it since you have a hard time seeing that far ahead.

On another note I do not smoke anything. I don't drink either so no need to try that next. I'm a decent young man and no not a fat WoW playing nerd either. If you have something more constructive to say or have any questions feel free to ask as we're all here to help the unwilling.

In response to ME.
I hear what you are saying, but you don't hear me. I also am an IT Professional, a term used all too loosly nowadays. I am simply saying:"O.K. Microsoft, SHOW ME that your track record is not blemished. I call myself a Systems Integrator, I don't like the term IT Professional. AND as a Systems Integrator I have been oft times burned by Microsoft's OS's. All varieties and colors. I don't care to be a Guinea Pig for Microsoft. Therefore I DO NOT send back information to Microsoft. Let them pay for Beta Testing. Not use us as their free ride to problem resolution.
I do not like dabeling in the unknown. Therefore, I refuse to stick my hand in the fire to see if I will really get burned! XP Pro does have it's shortcomings, but, it is stable compared to other Microsoft Operating Systems, some gone and some coming. If what you say is accurate your inference is that the U.S. Government and Industry in general are retarded and backward. Even our major educational institutions use XP Pro. Why have they not jumped on YOUR Soap Box and switched Operating Systems. There is something to be said about the ENTIRE U.S. Navy using XP Pro for our defense systems and shipboard Navigation & Propulsion. Oh, and lest us forget The IRS? Even the AARP uses IRS supplied networks, running on XP Pro, for the task of helping the elderly electronically file their tax returns for FREE!
I pray each night that SOMEONE, ANYONE, will develop an O.S. that is new and fresh. Microsoft's Band-Aid patches and repairs to a very old and combersome O.S. is getting to be just a little too much to bear. Hasn't anyone told the to trim down their Kernel? "Slim-Fast just won't do it!
Now put that in your peace pipe and smoke it. Or do you use a bong instead. You must really be smoking some "Bad Rope" to come to some of your conclusions.

Sorry Johnny but I don't buy it. I believe Windows XP has long since eXPired. In comparison it's like when XP came out and seeing people run Windows 3.11. That is the boat you're in and XP is no more stable. I've had my fair share of headaches with XP and think it has had its heyday. I see it now and it is old and ugly and I believe maybe people are growing lazy and less interested in learning. I've had great success with Vista. Furthermore there isn't as much incentive for Bill Gates as he no longer is CEO of Microsoft. I'm sure he'd love nothing more than to see his founding company survive and prosper but I don't believe he is quite as worried about it as you may think. I've been using Windows 7 for quite some time now and I am the type to go ahead and use it as my primary OS just to prove mislead people that everything is just fine and there isn't a conspiracy behind everything. Vista is to 7 as ME is to XP. Vista is just not nearly as big of a problem as people think. We wonder why this country is behind in technology... YOU!

Cry me a river about system usage... If we never raised the standard in the past we'd still have operating systems like windows 3.11 and be at a stand still. There needs to be demand for raising the bar and if a OS needs to be the one to do it so be it. Imagine still playing games with Atari 2600 graphics. I admit it was and still is quite entertaining but I think we've made great progress. Every time we need more detail we need more memory, better processors and larger volume discs such as 50GB blue ray not 650MB CD-ROM. I hope that makes sense. I think with Microsoft shrinking the build to a lesser than Vista size and optimizing all areas especially those which Vista was not the strongest at is going to make Windows 7 all that much more impressive. I'm looking forward to 16GB of DDR3 Ram and 16 core i7 processors. Touch screen will be entertainment for all as well a new way for everyone with a touch PC to compute. I bet you with new lower pricing there will be more inclined to buy Windows 7 because I know I will.

All things put aside ..... I will wait to move from XP Pro (SP2) to Windows anything else. If Microsoft's track record stays "On Track" it will be quite some time before stability is achieved. There are too many "What If Scenarios" in the wings.
Another thing to consider is the Russian O.S. scheduled to launch in 2010. It will be, yet another contender, in the "Ring of Supremacy"!
I am a business individual that tends to want to be more stabily productive, and let the other people "Take a Bath" before plunging in chasing the "New Shiny Toy"!
Bill Gates doesn't need any more money, and can easily afford to "Loose", as opposed to those who can't afford it.

I fully intend on buying Win7 when it launches, no piracy for me. But I would seriously love to keep using the beta/RC until the official launch. If the beta expires in August and the RC isn't made public, then what? I'll just have to sit around with a non-functional system until then? That would be epic suck.

Are you having a laugh Sardina? It's better having RC go live to beta testers as we've seen in the past, get them use it before releasing to the general public. This will help manages any patches or fixes.
