Thank you - I was up for 3 days against a deadline for a freelance client trying to figure out what the hell was happening to my workstation - which I treat with great care.

As soon as I followed all the instructions and RIPPED OUT ITUNES from my PC, everything was back to normal. The missing drives were slow at first, but then came back to full speed after regular use and normal reboots. Don't know why, but that's the way it was.

Thank you Apple for not upgrading this issue in TWO YEARS. I can understand MS, with Zune, not wanting to help. However, it's the most popular software for playback and sharing, someone cave in or lose your customers.

Apple has definitely lost all my business.

Specs: Win 7 64-bit Ultimate (yeah, right...). Combination of WD and Seagate drives 1TB in size or larger, both internal and external. All of them playing mount/dismount like they were at the Olympics.

I don't have upperfilters or lowerfilters in that class code, so I went with option 2, it says operation successful, but it still didn't fix the problem. :(

Spent 5 days trying to get the CD/DVD running after loading Window 7. Nothing suggested above has worked. Tried the microsoft.support link above and get addition error that the scripted diagnostics native host is failing. Am on business trip while Vista failed. Have bought Ultimate 7 and about to pull my hair out. Any additional ideas....please!

This is a Windows Vista & Windows 7 problem. The CD/DVD drive D suddenly disappears when you look at the My Computer screen. Only drive C shows. It happened to my brand new computer & I took it back to Best Buy & they fixed it. They said that a dirty or scratched CD/DVD can cause it and that it can happen again & again.
